Itinerary Egypt

 

 


Day 1 – Sep.17, Saturday : Cairo
Arrival to Cairo Int'l Airport, meeting, assistance and transfer to your hotel. Welcome and meet our author, guide, tour leader and group. Overnight in Cairo.
 
Day 2 – Sep.18, Sunday : After breakfast, We check out.
Morning after breakfast check we out of our Hotel and transfer to Cairo Airport for our flight to Cairo. Upon arrival to Luxor Airport transfer to our cruise ship. Lunch on board. In the afternoon, we visit the East Bank. Karnak, known as the ancient city of Thebes, welcomes the visitor with its sphinx lined entrance causeway. As you enter the giant gates you will be struck by the forest of giant columns; one of the most spectacular sites in the world. After Karnak and during the evening’s sunset we visit Luxor Temple known for its six colossal statues of Ramses II. As the sun sets over the Nile we will walk the great court yard seeing the many colossi of Ramses and his wife Nefertari. Dinner and overnight on board our ship in Luxor.
 
Day 3 – Sep.19, Monday : Luxor / Esna / Edfu

Breakfast on board. Today we have a full day of sailing on the Nile from Luxor to Esna. Morning free to sleep late, sit on deck and watch the small towns go by as you sun, swim or just relax and read a book. After lunch on board, Resa Nelson will have a seminar for those who want to learn to write, are writing or have given her a short story or manuscript to read. Late afternoon tea. Dinner on board and overnight in Edfu.

 
Day 4 – Sep.20 , Tuesday : Edfu/ Kom Ombo/Aswan

Breakfast on board and morning sailing to Kom Ombo. For those who would like one on one time with Author Resa Nelso, she will be available this morning to meet with you. After lunch we visit the spectacular Temple of Kom Ombo, home to the two Gods, Sobek and Haroeris. It is a short walk from our ship to visit Kom Ombo, known for its fascinating reliefs of medical instruments and dental tool, showing the amazing degree of sophistication of Ancient Egypt.We return to afternoon tea on board and dine while sailing to our next port, Aswan. Overnight on board in Aswan.

 
Day 5 – Sep.21, Wednesday : Aswan
Breakfast on board , free at leisure time OR ( Optional trip to Abu-Simbel to visit the temples of Ramses II and his favorite wife Queen Nefertari ) Lunch on board. This afternoon we take a Felucca (local sailboat) on the Nile around Kitchener's island. It is an awesome site to see all the other boats, birds, fish and small islands. After sunset we return to our boat for dinner and overnight in Aswan. Optional evening sound and light show at Philae Temple.
 
Day 6 – Sep.22, Thursday : Aswan / Edfu
After breakfast on board we visit the High Dam which was built in 1971 to regulate the flow of the Nile to ensure three harvests a year. We then visit one of the most beloved Temples in Egypt, Philae, the Temple of Isis. Isis was beloved as the wife of Osiris and the mother of Horus and was worshiped all over the Mediterranean. During the making of the High Dam, Philae was saved from flooding and moved to its current location. We return to our ship and during lunch we sale to Edfu. This afternoon we have another workshop with Resa Nelson. Afternoon tea while sailing and dinner and overnight on board in Edfu.
 
Day 7 – Sept. 23, Friday : After an early brealfast we visit Edfu Temple dedicated to Horus.

Temple dedicated to Horus. Edfu’s size and near perfect state of preservation is astounding. The inner walls of the sanctuary are well preserved showing how the king enters the sanctuary to worship Horus. We return to Esna and have lunch on board. This afternoon we sail back to Luxor and meet again with Resa on board. Late afternoon tea and dinner on board and overnight in Luxor. We will have time to go to the wonderful market in Luxor and spend a few hours in Luxor’s bazaar.

 
Day 8 – Sept. 24, Saturday : Luxor
Early breakfast on board and then off to visit the West Bank, "Thebes," to see the Valley of the Kings where we can visit several of the Tombs of the Kings. Many still have their original color and one can see the beautiful wall paintings depicting the dead King crossing over to the other side while the Gods weight his heart with a feather to see if his heart is pure. There are several other places to see; the Temple of Queen Hatchepsut at El Deir El Bahari, a spectacular building as it rises our of the desert plain. We finish our visit at the Colossi of Memnon. Lunch on board. The afternoon will be free to shop, rest or meet with Resa. Optional evening sound and light show at Karnak Temple. This is our last dinner and night on board. Overnight Luxor
 
Day 9 – Sept. 25, Sunday: Luxor / Cairo
Morning check out of our cruise ship and transfer to Luxor Airport for our flight to Cairo. Upon arrival to Cairo Airport we will transfer to our hotel in Cairo. Overnight at Cairo.
 
Day 10 – Sept. 26, Monday : Cairo
After our breakfast we have a full day in Cairo visiting the Step Pyramid of Sakkara, one of the most extensive archeological sites in Egypt. After a long visit we lunch at one of the local country restaurants sampling local food. Afternoon visit to rug factory. Overnight in Cairo.
 
Day 11– Sept. 27, Tuesday : Cairo
Full day to visit the great Pyramids of Giza where we will have an entrance to the Great Pyramid, spending time in the Kind and Queens Chamber. After our time at the Pyramids we visit the Sphinx and the Valley Temple. Lunch will be provided at a local restaurant in the Pyramids area. Afternoon time for
shopping for gold jewelry, perfumes and see how papyrus paper is made. Overnight in Cairo.
 
Day 12 – Sept. 28, Wednesday : Cairo
Today we have a half day to visit the Egyptian museum which houses the spectacular King Tutankaman treasures. After lunch at a local restaurant, we spend the afternoon visiting the Citadel of Salah El Din, built as a fortress to over look all of Cairo. After our visit we will see the beautiful Mohamed Ali mosque. Overnight at Cairo.
 
Day 13 – Sept. 29, Thursday : Cairo
Our final day in Cairo will be for time with Resa, visit to Kan El Khali Bazaar and if time permits revisit the Pyramids. Overnight in Cairo
 
Day 14 – Sept. 30, Friday : Cairo / USA
Morning check out of our Hotel and transfer to Cairo Airport for your flight back home.

These are some of the main highlights of the trip. There is much more we will do and see. Traveling in a small specialized group enables us to spend more time in a site, sample new things, change the itinerary to suite ourselves or add something new to our day.
